Conservation
Farming and conservation go hand in hand, the two can co-exist and Casey proves it.
By leveraging the latest in conservation farming practices, Casey maximizes crop production while at the same time improves soil health. No-till equipment used in conjunction with precision farming and satellite technology allows Casey to minimize soil disturbance and prescribe only those amounts of nutrients and chemicals needed to grow a successful crop. It's the "less is more" philosophy-- use just what you need when you need it; good for the land and good for business.
Good farming practices also means knowing when not to farm specific cropland. For land with erosion issues or land that is unproductive, Casey enrolls that land in conservation programs where instead of a crop, sustainable grasses and trees are planted. This creates wildlife and pollinator habitat and also helps improves water quality.
In the winter, Casey plants cover crops on the farms he tills. These cover crops are planted to consume any remaining nitrogen and phosphorus that a crop didn't use during the growing year so they don’t reach the water systems. It also provides additional organic matter and stabilizes the soil in the fields.
